I’ve been busy being a mom and making things lately. Finding some new hobbies & perfecting the “old” ones. I just haven’t been blogging. If you have followed me on instagram you’ve been able to see a lot of my fun stuff! I am splitting and creating a project-only instagram – so far I’m not using it but please feel free to follow it for when I do! User name is scrapsbyheather (crazy weird name to go with this blog – I know!) As of right now I’m not using it yet – I want to hang onto the name and may move more quilting there & keep more personal on hbuchwitz.
Why am I hoping to blog again? Well in large part because I’m in the process of setting myself up to start offering my quilting services to the public! I know I have the ability; with Sam a bit older I am starting to have the time; I just need to get my supplies and hardware all set up for a larger production scale!
I’m also planning to write up details on some of my recent adventures. I’ve taken up knitting (I don’t devote much time to it but I love it). I put my digital skills to use creating a class cookbook with 1st graders (and some friends; plus we raised $1000 for Andy’s school in the process). I spearheaded bringing VBS back to our church after 5 years without it & had nearly 200 kids attend (and I maintained my sanity). I have been quilting, making quilts and quilting those that I made. I made a whole LOT of cloth baby diapers for Sam who is nearly done with them (serious potty training coming our way soon). I’ve started designing my own quilt patterns. Some of these I will make into patterns you can buy. I’m currently making 20×20 wall hangings with characters from the movie Wall-E for Sam’s room. I will try to share my experiences and advice on all of these and more in the coming months.
If you are looking for a long arm quilter let me know & I will clue you in to when I will be ramped up & ready to start taking quilts. If you have a quilt you’d love to be made from scratch – let me know that too.
Well, it has been a while – and I am sorry! I made quite a few things lately – but I may not blog about them yet. I even have a blog post about the Christmas Stockings I made for us this year all written up – I will try to post it closer to when people will be thinking about Christmas projects again!
It has been a year (seriously – how is that possible!) since we went to Disney. I sooo would love to go back – but it wouldn’t be the same – we have our Disney “wish” (aka Sam), Andy is older etc. I have run across pictures of Andy at Disney a few times lately & I am astonished how much he’s grown up since last year! Yes – he’s bigger physically – but he just looks so much more grown up & he’s becoming a boy and less a pre-schooler. I am so glad we went when we did – he hadn’t hit the big whiney stage quite as intensely yet but MOST importantly – he LOVED Mickey with all of his heart & soul! He still likes Mickey & Jake & the other Disney shows, but Star Wars, The Hobbit, superheroes & Wild Kratts (especially those guys) have crept up in importance.

I mentioned on facebook this week that I wanted to be more intentional with the blog this year. Here are a few ideas and PLEASE let me know what you think!
- Learn it Tuesday (LiT)
- Did it Thursday (DiTh)
- Wordless Wednesday (I went out of day order on purpose – keep reading)
- Friday Night Blogs (FnBlogs)
The first two (LiT & DiTh) spring from an idea I heard in college that has stuck with me since
- You must Learn something to Do it
- You must Do something to Teach it
- You must Teach something to KNOW IT!
Learn it Tuesday (LiT) – focused on any technique but mainly digi/techy stuff (including the Silhouette)
Wordless Wednesday (WW) – a popular MEME right now I enjoy seeing on other blogs & want to jump on board with
Did it Thursday (DiTh) – showcasing projects I finished – scrapbook pages (including Project Life), mini albums, quilts, etc.
Friday Night Blogs (FNB) – a showcase of blog posts that I have been reading (covering any topic)
Some of these will be weekly – others less often but still consistent. Let me know which you like the best before I make my final decisions.
Also – I am looking into the proper plugin to allow you to blog along with me on the LiT & DiTH posts and link your posts up.
Well it has been a few weeks since my last post. As time goes on these will become more regular. 🙂 In the last few weeks alot has happened with my website! It has come a long way… not quite live yet but nearly so. If you found this blog & want to check it out while it’s in progress the temporary link is www.scrapsbyheather.com/anna. Once it goes live the /anna will be dropped.
So what’s new with me? I have been working on the website – putting together a price/product list is alot harder than I thought it would be. Do I want to go fully custom – how much for different sizes? Where do I want to print my digital prints at etc.?
That said – here is some of what I have done. I have found a very awesome professional printer that is the largest in the country & also a semi-local – Kansas anyway – business! I have also been researching S4H, S4O policies – and if you don’t know what those are, S4H – Scrap for Hire; S4O – Scrap for Others… very slight differences but most policies cover both. In the card making world these are referred to as Angel Policies. What I have found is that many of my favorite digital products have great S4H/S4O policies. Unfortunately, in the paper world it’s much harder so I have decided to utilize Stampin’ Up! exclusively for my paper products. That’s great because I am a demonstrator already & I have alot of supplies, not to mention they are top quality. So due to some of the restrictions I am looking at 100% digital for my scrapbook pages for sale – Stampin’ Up! has a great line of products for making cards, but for scrapbooks it would be too limiting for me.
Project I have been working on range from a Superman card for a friend to take to Vietnam to give to his son in July to a few projects for my husband. The Superman card has me worried – my friend doesn’t see his son often so I feel alot of pressure to make the card AWESOME!
Here are a few completed samples. I have a friend who is moving and asked for “We’ve moved” cards – I jumped right in without any idea of what she wanted because I had some ideas for a card I had wanted to make & now a ready-made use. She has decided on a style similar to the Van Gogh card I posted on 3/26/09 so I am adding the card I created to my digital “stock” collection online – I think it would be suitable for Thank Yous, as designed, or many other uses.
I also created a Birthday card and a Sympathy card this week. Here are those examples.
Sympathy card – the interior has the statement – “Praying for friends to comfort you, faith to uphold you, and loving memories to heal your heart.”
Thanks for visiting!
