Christmas in July – Christmas Stockings

This was written in January… but I saved it up to post now.  I am not going to update the “what I am doing” section – it’s a look back to January!

I’ve been pretty busy with a newborn, 5 year old & Christmas prep going on.  I made very intricate cross-stitch stockings for Kevin & myself over the years (started mine in college & his while we were dating).  I started one for Andy when I was pregnant with him – 5+ years ago… it still isn’t done!  So I figure at this rate Sam will never get one!  Time to make a new plan!  I saw this pattern (Merry) by Camille Roskelley when she made them for herself & in her instagram posts during the holidays.  Here’s a peak into my finished products.IMG_5484 - 2013-12-10 at 22-04-20

Disney album next steps

Worked on the Disney album a bit more this week!  I took all of my printed photos (that I organized here) and  sorted them into their proper organization & started populating my album with “stuff”.   I had some help taking photos for you…. I cannot wait to finish this album for him!   His interest in everything we did a year ago is awesome and I want to finish it for him so he can hang onto all of his wonderful memories (that we all know are so fleeting at his age).   He of course still had jammies & bedhead when I was taking the pictures – but that’s real life on a weekend!

Disney Album Organization

Well, it has been a while – and I am sorry!   I made quite a few things lately – but I may not blog about them yet.  I even have a blog post about the Christmas Stockings I made for us this year all written up – I will try to post it closer to when people will be thinking about Christmas projects again!

It has been a year (seriously – how is that possible!) since we went to Disney.   I sooo would love to go back – but it wouldn’t be the same – we have our Disney “wish” (aka Sam), Andy is older etc.  I have run across pictures of Andy at Disney a few times lately & I am astonished how much he’s grown up since last year!   Yes – he’s bigger physically – but he just looks so much more grown up & he’s becoming a boy and less a pre-schooler.  I am so glad we went when we did – he hadn’t hit the big whiney stage quite as intensely yet but MOST importantly – he LOVED Mickey with all of his heart & soul!  He still likes Mickey & Jake & the other Disney shows, but Star Wars, The Hobbit, superheroes &  Wild Kratts (especially those guys) have crept up in importance.

my photo helper

I have been here working on things, just not necessarily the blog!   I pulled out a few of my in-progress projects today to photograph & my helper wanted to be in on the pictures….and check out the pages!   He was really helpful turning the pages.   He was not so helpful getting between the pages & I or casting a shadow standing in the doorway.   That’s ok – he had fun.

2013 Calendar

December is getting away from me!  I kept up to date with DDaily for a few days (on paper, if not the blog); and stayed up to date picking/editing/printing for half the month.  I have been a bit sick this week & between that, last minute shopping, parties & of course a snow day I didn’t get much of anything done!  Yesterday I realized I hadn’t started the calendar I make each year for my in-laws (I did send my own mother the supplies to make her own already).  Historically I have done the Basic Grey calendar kit, but this year they didn’t make one!

Dec Daily – Dec 12th-14th 2011

It is December 3rd – and I just finished Day 1 of December Daily 2012!   Here is a sneak peak (also on Instagram).  I am enjoying this again because it is forcing me to be intentional with our time together – especially with Andy in school 2 days a week this year.

Here are another 3 days from last year.  I will start posting 2012 soon.

Superman capes

I have a nearly 4yr old.  Who expects a “Superman Superhero pajama party at gymnastics” for his birthday.  Gymnastics – check; pajamas – check (sorry to the other moms whose kids are invited – hopefully you already had superhero jammies…. we do have extras here if needed); Superheros – easy; Superman – NOT POPULAR!

Seriously – who knew that my kid could consistently pick difficult party themes?  Winnie the Pooh (last year’s party) for a 1yr old – easy… for a 3yr old – HARD!   This year – Batman & Spiderman are all the rage for the pre-school crowd.  Superman not so much.   So – here we go DIYing it again!  I have found some cake supplies & luckily I don’t need many decorations since the party isn’t at home.  I do, however, need treat bag treats.

So far I have some awesome buttons I found at Moon Marble in Bonner Springs (lovely local marble company & toy store)!

December Daily

Ok – I know I haven’t really been keeping this blog up.  New year… new plans…. hoping to have time to keep it up.

I have been following a few new-to-me blogs in the last year.  I started reading Ali Edwards blog about a year ago.  At the time she was creating a December Daily album.  LOVED the idea but at the time with a 2 year old who didn’t really “get” Christmas yet it just didn’t feel like the right time.  Now Andy is 3 and it felt like a great time to document our holiday.

Making progress!

Well it has been a few weeks since my last post.  As time goes on these will become more regular. 🙂  In the last few weeks alot has happened with my website!  It has come a long way… not quite live yet but nearly so.  If you found this blog & want to check it out while it’s in progress the temporary link is www.scrapsbyheather.com/anna.  Once it goes live the /anna will be dropped.

So what’s new with me?  I have been working on the website – putting together a price/product list is alot harder than I thought it would be.  Do I want to go fully custom – how much for different sizes?  Where do I want to print my digital prints at etc.?

That said – here is some of what I have done.  I have found a very awesome professional printer that is the largest in the country & also a semi-local – Kansas anyway –  business!   I have also been researching S4H, S4O policies – and if you don’t know what those are, S4H – Scrap for Hire; S4O – Scrap for Others… very slight differences but most policies cover both.  In the card making world these are referred to as Angel Policies.   What I have found is that many of my favorite digital products have great S4H/S4O policies.   Unfortunately, in the paper world it’s much harder so I have decided to utilize Stampin’ Up! exclusively for my paper products.  That’s great because I am a demonstrator already & I have alot of supplies, not to mention they are top quality.  So due to some of the restrictions I am looking at 100% digital for my scrapbook pages for sale – Stampin’ Up! has a great line of products for making cards, but for scrapbooks it would be too limiting for me.

Project I have been working on range from a Superman card for a friend to take to Vietnam to give to his son in July to a few projects for my husband.  The Superman card has me worried – my friend doesn’t see his son often so I feel alot of pressure to make the card AWESOME!

Here are a few completed samples.  I have a friend who is moving and asked for “We’ve moved” cards – I jumped right in without any idea of what she wanted because I had some ideas for a card I had wanted to make & now a ready-made use.  She has decided on a style similar to the Van Gogh card I posted on 3/26/09 so I am adding the card I created to my digital “stock” collection online – I think it would be suitable for Thank Yous, as designed, or many other uses.

I also created a Birthday card and a Sympathy card this week.  Here are those examples.
